How to read a business book

A guide to reading a book... surely its not that difficult? Reading is easy; remembering is the hard part (Well, applying the lessons is the real hard part but lets not get too picky). Brendon from Slacker Manager provides some quality tips for getting the most out of your books. I usually read a good book 2 or 3 times to let everything sink in but I will try this approach from now on. Even though I hate scribbling in books!

Bonds, Booms and Bubbles

Paul McCulley of Pimco (the worlds biggest and baddest bond fund) comments on the recent FOMC (Federal Open Market Committee) meeting - when the director of Pimco thinks there is a asset bubble in progress, you should really listen. Too many people are saying the same thing these days... not really looking forward to the next few years economy-wise.

On a side note - the letter is very easy to read for a layperson. You don't need a degree in financial economics to understand his views. (but it probably helps ;)

Making a Quantum Leap

That just about sums it up. Its easy to read a personal development book and get carried away with the enthusiasm; its _much_ harder to change your ingrained bad habits and truly apply the lessons learnt. From personal experience, it takes me 2 or 3 readings of a book before I really start applying the lessons.

Questions To Ask Interviewers

Smart things to add to a interview. If you cant think of anything insightful to ask the interviewer using your own means, then your probably not going to be seriously considered. I am not a huge fan of "canned" questions/responses, but these questions at least make you think about how to cut to the important issues. I especially like question 6. Will have to try that one in the next interview :)
